Fly Tying Night Scheduled

We have scheduled a club tying night for Sunday, February 12 at Piazzano’s restaurant from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We will be tying in the basement banquet room. Everyone is invited to bring tools and materials to tie or just show up for socializing or to learn a new fly, material or technique.

Notice: Change Of Date For February Meeting

Due to our regular meeting night falling on Valentine’s Day, we have changed the date to Tuesday, February 21, 2017.  We will meet at our regular time of 6:30 p.m. in room 273 of Giltner Hall.  Our speaker will be Dr. Bryan Burroughs, the executive director of Michigan Trout Unlimited.  He will be updating us on the Grayling fish farm, dam removals and helping to stop the spread of invasive species through decontamination of equipment.  Dr. Burroughs will also lead a question and answer session.

Tying Nigh Scheduled For January 24

We have scheduled a tying night/class for Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  We will meet in our new regular meeting space in room 273 of Giltner Hall on the MSU campus.  Members of the Red Cedars will be available to help beginning tiers learn to tie a fly or two that will be demonstrated by one of our master tiers.  Some materials and tools will be available.  Members of the MSUflygals are invited to join us.

January 2017 Meeting

Our speaker for the meeting this month (last years scholarship recipient) received a job offer out of state and had to cancel her presentation. Hopefully, she will be able to return soon to fill us in on her summer research and her new job. We have scheduled a replacement (but undoubtedly as interesting) presentation about our GLC president’s trip to Alaska. The meeting is in room 273 in Giltner Hall on the MSU campus. Federating starts at 6:30 p.m.and the presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Ellison Fly Tying Night Rescheduled

We have reserved space at Ellison Brewery & Spirits for a fly tying night on Sunday, January 8, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Ellison is located at 4903 Dawn Ave. East Lansing.  Dawn Ave. is a short street that only runs south off Grand River Ave, just east of  Nomad Anglers fly shop. Ellison is a little hard to find but is at the south end of Dawn which runs right next to the old Paul Revere’s Bar for those of you have been around for a bit.
Please join us to tie, observe, ask questions or just enjoy Ellison’s variety of craft beer.

West Michigan Fly Show

The Great Lakes Council of the International Federation of Fly Fishers is hosting the first West Michigan Fly Show at East Kentwood High School, 6230 Kalamazoo Ave. SE in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Saturday, January 14, 2017.  There will be fly fishing seminars, fly tying instruction, fly casting instruction and a variety of vendors.  At 3:00 p.m. there will be a 50-50 raffle and a live auction of 5 guided fishing trips.
Show hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Admission is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for ages 12-17 and free for children under 12.  $10.00 tickets available in advance from participating fly shops and IFFF clubs.

January Club Meeting – Tuesday the 10th

Our January meeting will be on Tuesday the 10th.  We will be meeting in room 273 of Giltner Hall on the MSU campus.  Giltner Hall is located at 293 Farm Lane.  Gated entrances for the Giltner parking lot are located off Auditorium Road and off Physics Road.  Gates are raised at 6:00 p.m.  The best entrance for room 273 is located in the east side of Giltner, at the north end of the parking area.
We are working to reschedule our cancelled tying night at Ellison Brewery & Spirits.  Check back here often to get more information.
Members are now selling tickets for our special fund raising raffle.  First prize is a rod package consisting of a TFO 5 weight rod, a 3-TAND TF-50 reel and a Monic 5 weight fly line.  Second prize is a $100.00 Cabela’s gift card and third prize is a waterproof fly box full of a variety of flies.  Tickets are $5.oo each and the drawing will be at our June meeting.  You need not be present to win.  For tickets, contact our board at presrcff@yahoo.com or purchase at any of our meetings.

Ellison Fly Tying Night Postponed

The fly tying night at Ellison Brewery & Spirits was postponed due to the winter storm that set upon us on Sunday.  We will be rescheduling for some other Sundays and will post the information here,  We also will be scheduling other Sunday tying nights throughout this winter.  Please check back here often to see that schedule.
